John 4:23 (NET)
But a time is coming - and now is here - when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers.
Worship is mentioned over 500 times, so it’s very important to the heart of God. The first act of worship mentioned in the Bible is Abraham offering his son on an altar of worship to God. Today it is used to describe a song classification.
I classify today's worship music into three basic categories; Worship, Scripture, and Testimony. What’s the difference?
Worship songs are directed to God and who He is.
Scripture songs are just that, scripture set to music.
Testimony songs are about us and what God has done for me.
I believe it’s important to know the difference because one is directed to God (worship), and testimony songs are about what God has done for me. (Scripture songs are self-explanatory.) It’s always good to be thankful for what God has done, but it’s a deeper dive to be direct about who God is.
Jesus said True worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and Truth. Both types of songs are true and come out of our spirit of gratitude and praise.
When it’s all said and done, It's about our hearts! It always is.
