Luke 9:23-26 (NLT)

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?

If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.

Verse 23 says turn from your selfish ways… What of our ways are selfish? A good question to ask and take time to listen for Holy Spirit to answer us personally. Then, take up your cross daily, and follow me. This is a daily exercise.

The passage continues by telling us that eight days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him up to a mountain to pray. During the time Jesus was praying, the disciples fell asleep and almost missed the incredible encounter with Moses and Elijah. We call it the transfiguration because Jesus was seen in his true glory.

Note: When Christ was alone, he was praying. He made time to be with his father.

It all comes down to having a daily, authentic relationship with Jesus; He will change our lives. He will help us escape our selfish ways and take up our cross daily to live for him.

If this sounds like a lot of work, just know this;

The cure for exhaustion is intimacy with Jesus!
