Ten times we are told in scripture to “Love your neighbor as yourself”. Does that include those who practice unnatural sex?
In the worldly culture of our day, nothing sexual is off limits. It has been called sexual perversion, but the contemporary term is paraphilia. It sounds innocuous or like a common disorder, but it is not.
This is nothing new! It has been written about in the Bible centuries ago. And as Ecclesiastes says; there is nothing new under the sun. God has seen all and knows all.
Jude 1:4-7 says: For certain men have secretly slipped in among you - men who long ago were marked out for the condemnation I am about to describe - ungodly men who have turned the grace of our God into a license for evil and who deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
You also know that the angels who did not keep within their proper domain, but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept in eternal chains in utter darkness, locked up for the judgment of the great Day.
So also Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire in a way similar to these angels, are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 says: But understand this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God.
They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.
Sexual sin is a stronghold that is not easily overcome!
But what if a person like this is in your family, or is your neighbor, or has been brought into your life by God for you to minister to? Then you love them like He loves them. That is ultimately what we are called to do anyway.
But the verse says to avoid people like this. This verse is speaking about the presence of people with these convictions being in the body of Christ or your local fellowship. If they are unaccepting of corrective teaching (done in love) then avoid them, put them out of the assembly so they don’t lead others astray.
But back to personal interaction and ministry. It is always the kindness of God that draws people to repentance. We don’t have to water down the word of God or His teaching to interact with people who practice sexual perversion (paraphilia). We stand firm IN LOVE, accepting the person, but admonishing the sin. We love our neighbor as ourself.
