Religion vs Kingdom

At Mount Sinai God gave Moses and the His people Ten Commandments to live by. Ten simple, easy to understand life hacks for living in community with others.

Over the years that passed until the time of Jesus, men began to expand the “Law” to include heavy burdens on the people. So many laws that it was next to impossible to live a righteous life under them.

Then Jesus came. He lived and grew under the weight of these laws. He lived in this environment and was without sin! Something not even the religious leaders could do.

Quite simply, religion (that which is constructed by man) got to be bigger than the actual Law given to Moses by God Himself. Religion, in my opinion, is the control placed on people by humans.

When asked by a religious leader what the greatest law was, Jesus replied,

You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.

This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. Matt 22:37-39

God is interested in a relationship with us, not one lorded over us. He is sovereign and holy beyond our ability to comprehend, yet so approachable. He does not want us to be intimidated by Him. He wants us to know Him. That is relationship, that is Kingdom!
