Jesus walked this earth fully human and fully God. He doesn’t just acknowledge our sin; he understands it.
Hebrew 4:14-16 (NLT) says
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
There are some preachers that give the impression that Jesus is sitting on his throne, just waiting for the opportunity to squash us because of our sins. Some would call this hellfire and brimstone preaching. But what about His Grace?
It’s true that the grace of God is not a license to sin or do whatever we want to do. His grace is precious because, without it, we are doomed to hell. But God sent Jesus into the world not to condemn it but to save it. John 3:17
