I Belong

Updated: Nov 29, 2022

According to the Calendar, it's All Souls Day!

In this crazy world and time we are living there is a constant need as humans to be accepted, to belong, to fit in and be loved. As believers we have this great sense of belonging to Jesus. The Bible says that our names are written on the palm of His hand and in the Book of Life. He is our Rock, our Strength, and we Belong to him.

The world around us is searching everywhere for this sense of belonging. It’s like a cancer, searing through their souls, and everyplace they look and indulge other than Jesus is simple evil. Traps and snares dressed up in alluring camouflage, enticing and promising fulfillment and belonging, only to leave the soul empty and alone…

We have the cure for this “cancer” and it’s Jesus! We don’t have to look far to see hurting, empty souls. They’re in front of us in line at the grocery store, at the gas pump next to ours or, dare I say it, sitting on the corner with a cart holding all of their worldly belongings asking for help.

There was a man lame from birth who was being carried up to the “Beautiful Gate” and placed there to beg for money from those going into the temple courts. In Acts 3:3-8 (NET) the account unfolds like this: When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple courts, he asked them for money.

Peter looked directly at him (as did John) and said, "Look at us!” So the lame man paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, "I have no silver or gold, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, stand up and walk!” Then Peter took hold of him by the right hand and raised him up, and at once the man's feet and ankles were made strong. He jumped up, stood and began walking around, and he entered the temple courts with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

By the word of our story…they too can belong!
