Does God Still Heal Today?

Isaiah 53:5 says, But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

The common consensus among today’s Bible teachers is YES, God heals today! So why aren’t we seeing more healing? You would think the nightly news would lead with accounts of people being healed today. But it doesn’t make the news headlines. Why is that?

1. “Some say that the spiritual gift of the working of miracles was limited to the apostolic age as a confirmation of the truth of the gospel. That this gift is no longer given.” (Blue Letter Bible)

People are the same today as in New Testament times - there are still non-believers who need this same confirmation of the truth of the gospel of Jesus. So, I’m not sure about this explanation.

2. Miracles are possible today, but sin and lack of faith on the part of the believers keep miracles from occurring.

Again, people today exhibit the same lack of faith and sin as days of old, but there may be something to this.

Mark 11:23,24 (NET) says I tell you the truth, if someone says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. For this reason, I tell you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

3. Miracles, as depicted in the Bible, are still possible but not the norm.

I have personally been healed. I had carpal tunnel in my wrist and was facing a career change. During worship, Holy Spirit encouraged me to put my hand on the wrist where it was hurting and continue worshipping. As I did, the pain in my wrist dissipated, and I was later declared healed by a doctor. I was thrilled to be able to return to my chosen profession and continue working. Holy Spirit asked me why I would return to a situation that abused my wrist after he healed me. He led me to a new career that was just as rewarding and served His kingdom, too.

I believe that healing does take place today. I believe that a skeptical media is afraid to report them. And most importantly, I believe that they are meant to point to Jesus as the Saviour Messiah that he still is today
