Build a Boat

I’ve been thinking a lot about Noah lately. What a world he lived in - that it was so bad God wanted to destroy it all!

But Noah was found faithful, and as it turns out he and his family were the only ones on earth that were. Their lives must have been very counter-cultural for his day.

Genesis 6:8-9 says But Noah found favor in the sight of the LORD. Noah was a godly man; he was blameless among his contemporaries. He walked with God.

Verse 22 says that Noah did ALL that God commanded him.

It had never rained before. The people, including Noah, had no idea what a boat was or what it was for. Sure there were rivers and lakes and the ocean, but to our knowledge, no boat had been built prior to Noah’s Ark.

The dimensions and the engineering of the ARK are still the standard used in ship building today. God is just that good.

I wonder what it cost Noah to be obedient to what God put in front of him? There was no precedent. There was nothing to compare his instructions to, no other incident like this before. It must have cost him all of his friends, even those who said they followed God too. Oh, how that must have hurt him and his family.

Yet Noah did ALL that God commanded him to do.

I want that kind of faith… to be willing and ready to be obedient to God even when there is no precedent. Even when there is nothing to compare the instructions to. Having to stand firm in the face of leaders laughing and shaking their heads at him.

I want to be counted as one who did ALL that God commanded me to do!
