I can do all things through Christ Jesus, who strengthens me… except this thing I’m facing. How often do we say this with our actions? I need just a little more faith! (Philippians 4:13)

Luke recalls Jesus saying (17:6 NET), “If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to the black mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled out by the roots and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

Matthew recalls it like this (17:20), “I tell you the truth, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you.”

The point is that the mustard seed is the smallest of all tree seeds, yet that small amount of faith is all that is required to unlock the power of Jesus through us! That’s powerful. So why is it so hard to have this small amount of faith?

Because we look around at our surroundings and feel defeated, if we look up and rely on the power found in Jesus, everything would be different.

I am reminded of a story about a man living in an apartment building in New York City. Every morning, he would be awakened by a woman singing. She would continue singing for hours every day.

Finally, the man couldn’t take it any longer and complained to the building manager. The manager explained that the woman in question was a world-renowned opera singer, having sung for presidents and the Pope.

The man went back to his apartment with a different perspective. Suddenly, he didn’t mind the woman’s singing.

If nothing around you changes, but you change, everything will be different!
